'Cool' is a word that has completely saturated American culture, but, like most slang, its definition is vague despite frequent use. The American Heritage Dictionary will tell you that cool is anything from a moderately cold temperature to self-possession under trying circumstances, but cool has nothing to do with those definitions. The cool I am talking about has something to do with tattoos, sunglasses, motorcycles, and Cadillac Escalades.
